Rocky Point School District’s athletics program has garnered two impressive honors this fall, each recognizing the students’ and district’s commitment on and off the field.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association named Rocky Point a Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction. This honor was given in recognition of the district having 100 percent of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the Scholar-Athlete Team award during their respective sports seasons in the 2016-2017 school year. Scholar-Athlete Teams require that 75 percent of the team roster’s grade point average be 90 percent or above.

Additionally, the athletic program was presented with the NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Promotion Program Award during the September meeting of the Suffolk County Athletic Directors. This award is the highest Sportsmanship Promotion award presented by the organization and signifies exemplary sportsmanship exhibited by the athletes, coaches, parents and spectators.

“Our district is extremely proud to be recognized with the highest honors given out by [NYSPHSAA] in both academics and sportsmanship,” said Charles Delargy, director of health, physical education, athletics and intramurals. “This marks a first for our school district in each of these areas and reflects our students’ commitment in the classroom and on the athletic field.”
