The Rocky Point High School girls varsity basketball team captured a big win over the holiday break – being named the victors of the Panther Classic basketball tournament.

The Eagles defeated Connetquot 35-18 in the first game of the tournament by applying tremendous full-court pressure and balanced scoring over four quarters. Rocky Point then faced the host team, Babylon, in the championship game two days later. The hard-fought game highlighted Rocky Point’s speed fed transition game and fueled the highest-scoring output of the year to date.

The Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter and defeated Babylon 54-39. Seniors Abby Bellport and Christina Bellissimo showed their leadership throughout the two games, and both were awarded all-tournament honors. Sophomore Clare Levy, who had 12 points in the first game, erupted for 18 points, five assists and three steals in the second game to capture the tournament MVP award.
“The entire team’s hard work and dedication has been validated by this tournament victory and will hopefully act as a springboard to continued success for the Rocky Point girls basketball program,” said coach Scott Lindsay.
