To further provide students with the opportunity to explore science research, Rocky Point High School has partnered with Stony Brook University and its Women in Science and Engineering program this year.

A cohort of 13 10th-grade students has been visiting Stony Brook each week, where they are learning about the research of Ph.D. graduates. In late December, the group traveled to Brookhaven National Laboratory, where students were able to view nanoparticles with an electron microscope. The students previously created the particles at Stony Brook, using a technique they learned about from one of the graduate students.

The school’s program will continue in the spring, and students will contribute to an end-of-year capstone symposium to share their work.
