The Rocky Point girls basketball team dominated the competition this year to win the Panther Classic Tournament – a two-day tournament involving four teams.

The team competed against its peers from Babylon, Newfield and St. Dominics during the challenging event. The Rocky Point Eagles defeated St. Dominics in the first round 61 -24. Junior captain Madison Gennaro led the scoring with 16 points. Junior captain Clare Levy contributed 14 points. In the second-round championship game, Rocky Point was pitted against Babylon High School, which had defeated a tough Newfield team in its first-round game.

Rocky Point played an outstanding team game that relied on defensive pressure created by a zone half-court press. The strong defense created steals and transition points for the Eagles the entire game. Each member of the team gave major contributions to this 44-27 win. Captain Clare Levy led the team in scoring and was named the tournament MVP. Captain Madison Gennaro and junior forward Autumn Kinderman received All-Tournament awards for their great play.

Rocky Point’s tournament win is its second in two consecutive years, and it is looking for another invitation to go for the “three peat” next year.
